St Nicholas and St faith Pre-school

This letter will give all new parents some of the important information needed for their children starting at Pre-school and will hopefully update all our returning parents.
Newsletters will usually be sent out monthly with upcoming information.

Topic: May we extend a big welcome to you and your family as your child begins their journey with us. This term will be full of fun, meeting new friends and learning new things. Our activities / topics are planned based around the EYFS framework, however, as we respond to children’s interests these plans may change. We would welcome any ideas on topics or offers of demonstrations from parents during the coming year.

Key Person: When a child starts at Pre-school, they will be assigned a staff member called a key person. They along with other staff members will help to settle your child and form good attachments to them. They will also follow your child’s learning progress throughout their time at Pre-school, making regular observations and posting them on your child’s online learning journal. All returning children will remain with the same key person.
If you would like to discuss your child’s progress at any time, please make a mutually convenient time with your key person. The start of a session is usually too busy to take time out for individual discussions, so the end of a session would be preferable.

Registration: During your child’s first day at pre-school they will make a name card which will be on the table in the foyer on their next session. As they come into pre-school we encourage them to find their name card and hang this along with their belongings on their peg.

‘WOW’ moments: Please record any learning opportunities outside of pre-school or other exciting adventures your child gets up to. We would be grateful if these could be posted onto your child’s on line learning journal to share in pre-school. (Anything from sleeping all night or helping to make cakes etc). We would like to encourage parent/pre-school communication and it is always great to get an insight into family life!

Coffee morning: We hold a coffee morning during each full term so you can look through your child’s online learning journals, discuss your children’s progress with your key person and to socialise with other parents. You will be informed of the dates via a newsletter or Tapestry.

Home Box: It is preferable if your child does not bring in toys from home as they sometimes get packed away at the end of a session, causing upset or sometimes other children want to play with them which may result in breakages. If they do need to bring in something such as a comforter, we have a home box to put things into.

Nicholas and Nicola Teddy: At Pre-school we have 2 teddies who like to go home with children on visits. The children can keep them for a couple of days and if possible you can write a short diary of their adventures and post onto their online learning journal for them to share at pre-school. (Accompanying photos would be great).

Uniform: As part of your registration pack at a cost of £15 you will receive a pre-school tee-shirt and a pre-school book bag (please could your child bring this in each session they attend). You can also order extra tee-shirts or jumpers if needed. Please label all clothing items.

Funding: If you are entitled to funding you will be asked to fill out a funding form within the first few weeks of the new term.

Notice board: Although we do have regular newsletters, we will post extra news items onto the notice board in the foyer so please take your time to look daily.

Planning: Each half term we have an overall theme and each week we have separate topics. There will be copies of our weekly planning available for you to look at in the foyer.

Committee: Our AGM will be at the beginning of October (date advised nearer the time). We need as many parents/ carers to attend. Without a committee Our Pre-school cannot run, so we would appreciate if you could look at our committee leaflets and consider joining. It is not a daunting task as we only informally meet approx 3 times a year to discuss new ideas.

Car park: As will see there is limited parking outside the Pre-school. If you use your car to bring your child down, we can issue a parking permit for use in the car park opposite. Please note: The parking times are stated on the permit and cannot be used at any other time or in the school holidays. Please be warned that the traffic wardens regularly patrol the area at drop off and pick up times. (Please see staff member for permit)
